Cohlmia Hoover Group
Tom began his financial services career in 1988 as an independent financial advisor. By 1995, he had started his own financial services company and has maintained that independence throughout his career. After a merger with another firm in Wichita, Tom teamed with Steve Cohlmia in 2002 to form the Cohlmia Hoover Group to specialize in individual financial planning and corporate retirement solutions.
Tom was raised in Garden City, KS and attended Kansas State University where he obtained an engineering degree. An interest in the markets led him to take his analytical skills to the financial services field. He met his wife Bonnie while attending college and they have two sons, Jason and Ryan. As all members of the family are Kansas State graduates, one of Toms passions continues to be supporting the university in many different facets. He also enjoys golf, hunting, travel and any activities that involve spending time with his family. Tom has served multiple terms as a board member of Harry Hynes Hospice.
Tom holds several securities licenses: Series 7(General Securities Representative), Series 8 (General Securities Sales Supervisor, Series 24 (General Securities Principal), Series 53 (Municipal Securities Principal Examination), Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination), Series 66 (Uniform Combined State Law Examination) as well as insurance licenses.
Steve has many passions: his church, family, clients, Bishop Carroll High School, and Wichita State University. A life-long Wichitan, Steve is a firm believer in giving back. He is an active member of St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral, having served as past president of the Parish Council and the Cathedral Endowment. He is also Co-Chair of the “100 yr. Cathedral Capital Campaign.” On Sunday mornings, you will see and hear him singing bass in the Cathedral Choir.
An avid Wichita State Shocker for life, Steve has served on the WSU Alumni Association Board and was past president of the organization. Steve is also a member of the Wichita Metro Crime Commission and serves on the board as well.
Steve has been in the advisory business for 30 years and he and Tom Hoover have been partners for 17 years. One of the highlights of their careers has been their sons, Pete and Jason, joining Cohlmia Hoover Group in 2009 and 2018 respectively. “Our clients are like family to us, we are here to grow with them and their following generations.” Steve holds Series 7 (General Securities Representative), 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination) & 66 (Uniform Combined State Law Examination) securities licenses and is life insurance licensed.
But Steve’s real pride and joy is his family. His wife of 40 years Missy, their son Pete and his wife Tiffany, their daughter Leigh and her husband Dr. Maged Elzein, and their grandkids Jack, Bridget, Remy, and Mira.
To Steve, it is all about family and relationships.
From an early age, Pete has always been a ‘numbers’ guy. Whether it was religiously looking up the values of his thousands of baseball cards, to competing to be the first one done with math flash cards in 3rd grade, to saving up his lawn mowing money to buy his first car for $600 at the ripe old age of 15, Pete understands numbers. And it’s not just numbers that are second nature to Pete. He strives to create value for his clients by honing his financial knowledge and expertise while respecting what it takes to make and grow a hard-earned dollar.
Outside of four years spent away at college, Pete has called Wichita home his entire life. There’s something to be said for setting down deep roots and being able to seamlessly navigate your hometown because you know the people, places and things that make it tick.
Evenings and weekends, Pete and his wife Tiffany can be found on the sidelines of a basketball court, baseball field, dance studio, or soccer field watching their two children – Jack and Bridget – compete. They’re active members of Magdalen Catholic Church, where Tiffany grew up and now teaches, and where Jack and Bridget attend school.
A proud graduate of Kansas State University, Pete still loves keeping up with all things K-State although trips to Manhattan are less frequent these days. When he’s not spending time with his family, Pete is a tech enthusiast/gadget nerd, a master at keeping a manicured lawn, and can be found listening to or watching pretty much any sport, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs (ask him about Cubs Spring Training in 2002).
Pete holds licenses in Series 7 (General Securities Representative) and Series 66 (Uniform Combined State Law Examination) as well as being life & health insurance licensed
Jason joins the Cohlmia Hoover Group with a diverse background of financial experiences. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Economics with an emphasis in Investment Management. After college, Jason spent time in Boston, New York City, Denver and Kansas City gaining experience in different areas of finance and investments ranging from real estate and commodities to investment banking. Most recently, he worked for George K. Baum & Co. specializing in municipal bond analysis.
Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf, Kansas State athletics and spending time with his family. He’s an active member in the Wichita Catbackers group and helps plan the organization’s annual golf tournament.
Jason holds several securities licenses: Series 7(General Securities Representative), Series 52 (Municipal Securities Representative), Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination), Series 66 (Uniform Combined State Law Examination) as well as insurance licenses.
